April update
Wow so what a month it's been! I have spent a lot of time this month planning and preparing for a few new projects I have in the pipeline...as well as all of the Olympic craziness that is building slowly.
The projects I have been focusing on this month are:
Working with the Townstal Youth group to establish a youth dance company, lead by them. After some really positive meetings with both the group leaders and the young people I have been looking out for different sources of funding to make this project happen. The young people are planning to do some of the fundraising themselves and there is already talk of a car boot sale, bag packing and even a bit of crowd funding! Watch this space... For more information about getting involved in this in any capacity please do let me know south@danceindevon.org.uk
After meeting some wonderful people at a meeting for organisations who work with people with mental health issues and people with mental health problems I was inspired and have been busy planning a small scale project in Dartmouth just to test the water. This is an area I am very interested in and after conversations with local people I am really keen to get it going as there really does seem to be a need for it in the area. It won't be exclusive to people with mental ill health anyone with a long term health problem, or carers of other would be more than welcome. I am hopping to begin by the end of May and I will conform the time/venue/date very soon. I was also asked to write a article for BID this month which was published if you would like to read it please follow this link https://www.beinvolveddevon.org.uk/news. Its called don't mention the D word :). And again if this is something you would be interested in then please get in touch.
Big Dance is full speed ahead! So far I have 3 primary Schools and 2 secondary schools signed up and I have ran a Inset for local teacher and taught a local youth dance company. Next month I will be teaching in both secondary schools! So on the 18th May (the day of the world record) South Devon will be dancing!!
All plans for the Torch Relay event are going smoothly...apart from a typo on the first poster, apologies for that! not long to go for the big day now and everyone involved is very excited. The Stoke Fleming group especially put together for this event met for the first time last week and we had a great time. The group made a great start and already have quite a bit of choreography done. However it isn't too late to join so please com down to the village hall in Stoke Fleming on monday at 6pm if you want to get involved.
I will be spending my Sunday rehearsing with SpinDrift dance company in Kingsbridge as I am joining them as a dancer for their new piece 'fear' choreographed by Kerri Jackson. The piece should be ready to tour by June so keep a look out for performances at local venues around Devon and Cornwall.
Right thats all for now I think, but don't forget to keep me unto date with all things dansey and I will post any classes or events up on here.
